Phil Zimmerman, the inventor of Pretty Good Privacy (PGP), has released a new system for secure communications, called שטיל רינג. פֿאַר $20 פּער חודש, the service is provided through a mobile app for iOS and Android. It allows you to decrypt and encrypt email, voice, text, and VOIP transmissions to and from your device.

When two Silent Circle users talk to one another all of their communications is fully encrypted, מיט “absolutely no backdoors.Zimmerman points out that the encryption keys are always with the user, and never hosted on the company’s servers, which are located in Canada.

  1. The service looks good but I don’t agree when they say that servers are located inprivacy friendly Canada”, I don’t see Canada as any kind of privacy heaven, they are one of US best friends and their privacy laws aren’t that different.

    • There are many worse countries than Canada surely, the US is only one of them. And as mentioned in the article, the location of the servers (and who has access to them) doesn’t change the security of the communications- they were presumably referring to the long term prospects of the servers being forcibly shut down.
